·         By participating in on-site job activities, co-op students learn to make informed decisions about potential career choices.

·         Students are trained in job preparation skills, resume preparation; interview practice; portfolio preparation.

·         Students make connections between in-school learning and life-long learning.

·         Students develop the work habits, attitude, and essential job skills necessary for successful transition to both post-secondary learning institutions and the work force.

·         Students forge links with members of the workforce in their communities.

·         Students are learning to identify and articulate their own personal strengths and skills in the workplace.

·         Students may register as OYAP students, and gain hours and links to apprenticeship training.

Why should parents encourage their son/daughter to take co-op?

·         Parents and students have the opportunity to have meaningful dialogue around career choices and preparation for employment, based in authentic job experiences

·         Students are provided with job placements based on individual and personalized interests, so that they can experience first-hand what future careers might best suit their talents and needs.
