Frequently Asked Questions?
Q1: How does the co-op program work?
A1: You will attend a co-op class for about two weeks at the beginning of the semester that will help to prepare you for your placement. You will then work at your placement (hours to be discussed with your teacher and supervisor) and you will return to class for one day a month, and again at the end of the semester.
Q2: What happens if I need to be absent from my placement?
A2: If you will be absent from your placement, it is advisable that you discuss it with your supervisor before the absence. It is recommended that you book appointments outside of work hours. If you can not attend your placement on a particular day, you will need to call your supervisor and notify him/her and you will need to call your co-op teacher to notify him/her of the absence as well (613-678-2023 ext. 4315).
You will be lose marks if you are absent and no one has been notified.
Q3: What happens if there's a snow day?
A3: If there's a snow day, you are not required to attend your placement, but it is recommended that you call your supervisor and let him/her know that you won't be attending work because of the snow day.
Q4: What if I really don't like my placement?
A4: If you don't like your placement it's important to try to figure out what you don't like about it. You should also talk to your co-op teacher about it. By working together with your teacher, you might be able to decide if you need to work on a differenet task at your current placement, challenge yourself more, or maybe change placements.
